The Upper Schuylkill River Master Plan introduces a framework to organize, prioritize and guide specific initiatives by focusing on conserving and improving public access to and along the river. The plan addresses key concerns for riverfront development, including physical planning and design, programming, and maintenance challenges.

Smart Transportation Guidebook, NJ/PA

The Smart Transportation Guidebook, commissioned by the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission, advances the context-sensitive approach to road design forward. Brown & Keener’s key contribution to the guidebook was linking the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials’ (AASHTO’s) “functional classifications” to place types.

Developed a strategic plan that guides municipalities toward making decisions that create commercial centers instead of strip plazas, to form neighborhoods instead of subdivisions and preserve open space.

Public Art Master Plan, Pinellas County, FL

The already successful Pinellas County Public Art program appointed BK to help advance it to a new level of public awareness and effectiveness. BK conceptualized the integration of art into the existing infrastructure and into places people use the most. The plan strengthened the ability to foster partnerships and included a timeline of projects to pursue. The ultimate goal: that public art strengthens the civic realm and makes a place where people plan to stay.

Public Art Master Plan, Clearwater, FL

The City of Clearwater, FL launched a public art program for which Brown & Keener helped develop a multi-year workplan for public art to transform the difference to the city’s character. BK set priorities and goals for specific projects and created an “action plan” that sorted projects into three tiers: 1) Do it Now 2) Do it Next, and 3) Do it When the Time is Right.
